Subaru Observatory Project
The "Subaru Observatory Project" was originally planned for producing very important output to astronomical society by systematic time allocation and using characteristic functions of Subaru Telescope. The observation time for this project consists of guaranteed time both for telescope builders and for people responsible for telescope operation. Totally six proposals were submitted for the project on Oct 2002. After the much discussion on the strategy and the contents of each proposal via several interim reviews, mainly organized by the "task force", which consists of 6 people selected to be responsible for making suggestions of an appropriate plan for the project to the director, 3 proposals were selected for execution during 2002 and 2003 fiscal years. They are Subaru Deep Field (SDF) (PI is Dr. Kashikawa at Mitaka, NAOJ), Subaru XMM-Newton Deep Survey (SXDS) (PI is Dr. Sekiguchi at Hilo, Subaru Telescope), and Subaru Disk and Planet Searches (SDPS) (PI is Dr. Hayashi at Hilo, Subaru Telescope).
The data and catalogs obtained by this project have been planned to be open to the astronomical community over the world as soon as possible. The images and catalogs of SDF has been opened to the public on Oct 1st, 2004. The beta version of images and catalogs of SXDS taken with Suprime-Cam have been opened on June 1st, 2004. The version 1.0 of the SXDS data are planned to be released in fall 2004.
